What is the Canada Disability Benefit?
The Canada Disability Benefit (CDB) is a federal benefit for working-age people with disabilities. It aims to address the disproportionate level of poverty experienced by people with disabilities and to improve their financial security.
How much is the benefit?
The maximum benefit amount is $2,400 a year, or $200 a month. The payment amount you receive is based on your income and other factors.
When will I begin receiving payments?
The first payments will begin in July 2025, for applications received and approved by June 30, 2025. Payments will be made monthly.
Note: It may take up to 28 calendar days to process the CDB application form, and you can call Service Canada’s designated CDB call center to check on the status of your application.
To be eligible for the CDB, you must:
be between the ages of 18 and 64,
be currently approved for the Disability Tax Credit (DTC), and
have filed an income tax return for the previous tax year.
You must also meet the income requirements for the CDB.
